Christmas Dinner

April 10, 2008 12:58 by donald
Christmas Dinner venue and date to be announced - details will be uploaded onto the website as soon as they are available.

Autumn Cabaret Supper Dance

April 10, 2008 12:48 by donald

Stand by for confirmation of the date ( it will be either Friday 10th October or Saturday 11th October ) for another fantastic musical evening of song, dance and laughter - most of the latter no doubt being directed by the senior members towards the more junior ones as the latter attempt Charleston, Rumba and Foxtrot. Mind you, watching our more "mature" colleagues twisting, salsa-ing or, in general, simply gyrating in three or four different directions at once will more than compensate the younger membership!

One way or another, it's THE musical event of the tear - don't miss it.

Mixed Putting Competition

April 10, 2008 12:34 by donald

This season's mixed putting tournament will take place on Friday, July 4th. Open to all members - male and female - it will have a similar format to last year but there will be one added extra which promises to be a lot of fun. Supper in the function suite of the hotel will be followed by a golf quiz. Stuart has so far refused to add any detail, so it COULD be that Jeremy Paxman will be asking the questions - who knows?!

One way or another, put the date in the diary - it promises to be a fine evening's entertainment.

DALHOUSIE SOCIAL NEWS

March 7, 2008 11:27 by ed

Following the tremendous success of the supper/dance in April 2007, Stuart Gearty summoned up enough energy to repeat the function – this time with a ‘Robert Burns’ theme to it – in the Carnoustie Golf Hotel in January. It was, once again, a great success, though there was a disappointing attendance this time around. Those who did not manage to make it were the undoubted losers.

The haggis ( having been courageously and, at times, extremely threateningly, addressed by Bill Nicoll ) was duly “cut up wi’ ready slicht” and subsequently devoured with equal venom by the assembled guests. Following a short interval, Stuart’s inimitable selection of music – Big Band to suit the Glenn Miller fans, Rockin’ Fifties stuff for Adrian’s table, followed by Abba, the Travelling Wilburys and other classic sounds from the seventies and eighties, had the whole audience in ecstasy ( please note small ‘e’).

The videos on the big screen, sound tracks and all technical stuff required were supplied by the splendid George Clark, whose superb sound system was a joy to behold. The only disappointment was the failure by Amy Winehouse to put in her promised appearance. Stuart humbly apologises for this....he was sure that his offer of a packet of three still-wrapped Penfolds and a free fourball on the Buddon had been enough to swing her making the trip – alas, it was not to be.

Undeterred, however, Stuart has already announced his plans for the remainder of 2008. A ‘mixed’ putting night (we are not quite sure if the adjective refers to sexes or the form of the participants ) is to be staged in the summer, with an exciting – and no doubt controversial - golf quiz to follow afterwards. A cabaret night, with supper and dancing, is being scheduled for September, while he plans, this year, to have a Christmas Dinner with members of both Dalhousie and Dalhousie Ladies in attendance. ( We are all for that - it sounds MUCH more exciting than the gentlemen on one night and the ladies on another!)

Please log on to the website for further news on all of these events as they unfold, or check the Dalhousie notice board in the Carnoustie Golf Hotel. Stuart deserves as much support as we can give him for the tremendous effort he puts into the arrangement of the Dalhousie social calendar – please do your best to give him yours.
