The Dalhousie Golf Club - Honorary Life Membership

February 29, 2012 07:13 by arthur

The Dalhousie Golf Club has awarded honorary life membership to two men who have played a major part in the history and development of the club and of golf at Carnoustie.
Gordon Ellis, a past captain and former secretary and treasurer of the club, has been a member for 61 years and played as a junior before that.  His honour is in recognition of his outstanding service to the club.  The son of a former captain, Gordon has family connections with the club going back to 1895.
John Philp, links superintendent at Carnoustie, was honoured for his outstanding service to golf. John is widely acknowledged as having led the transformation of the Carnoustie links courses, in particular the Championship Course, back to the world-wide status they again enjoy. In accepting the award, John generously paid tribute to the team he has led for more than 20 years.
Club captain Gordon Wilson presented commemorative salvers, ties and certificates to the two new life members in a ceremony after the February general meeting.
