This year's final was played between Jim Wallace and Club Captain Gordon Wilson over the Championship in breezy but warm and sunny conditions. Early play was scrappy as both players struggled to come to terms with the brisk westerly, but by the 10th Jim Wallace had fought to a 2 hole advantage. The 11th proved to be a turning point. Both players drove well into the fairway, but both put their approaches into the far right bunker. Jim had the poorer lie, but played an excellent shot into the heart of the green, while Gordon took 2 to get out. Now three up it was always going to be difficult for Gordon to reel in Jim. Although a par was enough to take the 12th, Jim then played 13, 14, and 15 in 1 under par to see out the match and win the Webster Baillie Trophy for Club Champion for 2013.
Both players should be complemented for the high quality of the match and the even higher degree of sportsmanship that was in evidence.
