The Seniors travelled to Forfar Golf Club on Monday 9th September. When the first group teed off around 12.30pm, the sun was out and we all looked forward to a wonderful day.
An hour or so later, a dark cloud was approaching and we wondered if it would pass by. It didn't, and we got a period of monsoon type rain and also hail stones.
With the course being so dry, the greens, fairways and bunkers flooded very quickly and it was decided that we should abandon the course and make for the shelter of the club house.
Another hour or so later, the rain was off. Two groups however were still out there. The first group of Sandy Fairweather and Ian Wilson decided to carry on and completed their round which resulted in a halved match.
Unknown to the rest of us, the last group, consisting of John McDougall and Bill Jackson, (who we assumed had left for home), soldiered on and also completed their round with a 4 & 2 victory.
So well done to those who carried on but I think the decision to come in due to the condition of the course was the right one at that time and the other 5 soaked groups agreed.
