The Dalhousie Golf Club Race Night, held at the
Carnoustie Golf Hotel on Friday, May 12th, was an outstanding
success. It was, once again, Gair Forbes who organised the entire event and,
building on the success of the inaugural one in 2016, around one hundred and
twenty participants went home in high spirits after a fun-packed evening.
Gair’s energy and persuasion in the preparations for
the event produced a tremendous array of prizes for the raffle, tickets for
which were enthusiastically sold during the evening by Carol Ford, Liz Wilson
and Linda Cargill. Alan Irvine (AJI Entertainment) was the technological wizard
who pulled the videos and excitement of the eight races together for a hugely
responsive and appreciative audience, while his musical selections to fill in
the gaps between races were outstanding. A finger buffet and splendid bar service
from hotel staff (allied to some first class financial returns for more than a
few guests!) ensured that a memorable night simply flew past and was thoroughly
enjoyed by all.
Talking of financial returns, Gair’s terrific work
produced a donation of £1000 for the Scottish Charity Air Ambulance, while
Dalhousie funds also benefited, with a profit of £725 earned on the night. Gair
already has plans on the drawing board for a 2018 Dalhousie 150th
celebratory Race Night. A disappointing turn-out of members was the only
negative aspect of an action-packed evening; those who didn’t come missed a
quite superb night of fun, socialising and entertainment. It is to be hoped
that the prospect of a ‘repeat performance’ in a VERY special year for
Dalhousie will encourage them NOT to miss it, next time around.
